A conversation panel with Julie Cullen and Lorna Simmonds, from New Zealand about their organization: Sensible Screen Use, a website that seeks to raise awareness about the potential benefits and risks involved with using digital technologies in the classroom. Through this project, these two professionals have experience working with children, and insight into the pros and cons of how technology is being used in the classroom in many NZ schools. This conversation will bring up ideas and comments on international studies and examples that relate to the impacts of screen use, in a way that teachers, parents, and culture professionals can keep up to date with research in the field. With confinement, the question also arises into the co responsibilities that we as art organizations have in the promotion of digital content and relationships with audiences.

Sensible Screen Use
An organisation that seeks to raise awareness about the potential benefits and risks involved with using digital technologies in the classroom. The website was developed with the help of a group of health professionals, educators and parents who believe that the way digital technology is commonly used in many schools in New Zealand is not meeting the goals of our digital curriculum. The website summarises international studies. The organisation has linked in with educators and experts internationally, to form connections and to learn from each other’s experiences. The aim of Sensible Screen Use is to promote discussion and get the best out of digital technologies for our young people.
